Mark your calendars – on Sunday, July 12th, Jistra Adventures brings back one of the most unusual movie nights in Croatia for its sixth edition: Kayak Cinema Under the Stars. Instead of cinema seats, picture a giant screen floating on the sea at Camp Stupice in Premantura, and instead of rows of chairs, a fleet of kayaks gathering in the water in front of it.
If you haven’t experienced it before, here’s the idea: instead of sitting in a chair, you paddle out in a kayak, tie up next to friends (or new ones you’ll meet on the water), and watch a film play out on a giant screen floating right there with you. No walls, no rows of seats – just your kayak, the stars, and the sea holding you steady.
Getting everything ready is a whole event in itself. Our team lines up dozens of kayaks along the shore, checks every paddle and life vest, and builds the floating screen out on the water – ropes, poles, patience, and a good sense of humor when the wind decides to have an opinion. As the sun starts to dip behind the pines, the whole bay slowly fills with kayaks paddling out to grab a spot in front of the screen.
Before the film starts, there’s popcorn and a welcome drink of chilled Malvazija courtesy of Vina Prodan waiting for you – because even a floating cinema deserves proper snacks. Grab yours, settle into your kayak, and get ready as the light starts to fade.
Then the sun sets, the screen lights up, and for the next couple of hours it’s just you, your paddle resting across the kayak, and a film playing under a sky full of stars. Kayaks drift gently, tied loosely to one another, and the only sounds are the film, the water, and the occasional laugh from a few boats over. It’s a strange, wonderful kind of stillness you won’t get anywhere else.
This will be our sixth edition, and every year it somehow feels just as special as the first. What started as a small experiment has grown into one of the events people plan their summer evenings around, and we love that it keeps bringing together locals, tourists, families, and couples looking for something a little different from the usual night out.
